A heartwarming rescue unfolded this week after Member of Parliament Rinesh Sharma intervened in a disturbing case of animal cruelty, where a dog—later named Romeo—was found tied and padlocked.

Rinesh Sharma was alerted to the situation and immediately contacted police. Officers responded swiftly, rescuing the distressed dog and ensuring he was placed in safe hands. The MP has since confirmed Romeo is doing well and promised to visit him soon.

“This cruelty is unacceptable,” Sharma said. “The person responsible should be charged. As an MP, I assure the people of Fiji that animal protection and welfare laws will be a top priority for me. This matter will be brought to Parliament.”

He also stressed that real change requires everyone’s involvement. “Through collective action, all of us can make a difference,” he said.
