The Fiji Police Force Dog Unit marked an important milestone today as they welcomed two new K-9 graduates and celebrated the achievements of four others who excelled in the Dog Championship Competition held in Suva last week.
Acting Police Commissioner Juki Fong Chew thanked the K-9s and their handlers for their dedication and acknowledged the New Zealand Police for their continued support.
“I wish to thank the New Zealand Police for helping us develop our K-9 capabilities, we are seeing the results of this partnership every day,”
Mr. Chew said. He highlighted that the New Zealand Police has been working with the Fiji Police since the 1970s, providing training and support.
The partnership was further strengthened under the Duavata Partnership signed in March 2022, which led to the Fiji Police Partnership Programmed (FPPP) focused on improving police operations in Fiji.
New Zealand High Commissioner Charlotte Darlow congratulated the two new graduates and their handlers, emphasizing the strong partnership between the two countries.
“This partnership has been built on hard work and dedication,” Ms. Darlow said.
She also praised the efforts of Senior Advisor Wally Kopae, a specialist in patrol dogs, for his commitment to developing Fiji’s K-9 capabilities.
Ms. Darlow extended her thanks to the families of the K-9 Unit for supporting their work, recognizing the important role they play in the success of the Fiji Police Dog Unit.
