The Fiji Police Force is sending 10 police officers to Brisbane, Australia, to participate in the Pre-Selection Assistance and Assessment Team (Pre-SAAT) training and Assessment for Mission Service (AMS) as part of a broader regional initiative to strengthen Pacific participation in international peacekeeping missions.
The training will be held at the Pinkenba Training Centre from May 12 to June 13, 2025. It is being facilitated through the Pacific Islands Chiefs of Police (PICP) under the Australian Federal Police-supported Pacific Policing Initiative (PPI).
The Fijian officers will join over 100 regional participants, attending both as candidates and trainers. This multilateral effort aims to boost the representation of Pacific law enforcement in United Nations peacekeeping missions by enhancing capabilities and readiness through collaborative training.
“This is a significant collaborative step for the region, and we must fly the Fiji and Fiji Police Force flags proudly and utilize this opportunity well to showcase our capabilities as a region,” said Assistant Commissioner of Police Crime (ACP) Mesake Waqa, who officially farewelled the officers on behalf of the Commissioner of Police Rusiate Tudravu.
In addition to the 10 officers participating in the training, three certified UN instructors from the Fiji Police Force will assist the Australian Federal Police as trainers. They include Superintendent of Police (SP) Ruci Nasemira, Assistant Superintendent of Police (ASP) Mohammed Yunus, and Acting Assistant Superintendent of Police (A/ASP) Rakeshwar Singh.
These officers will be part of a larger group of 20 international trainers supporting the pre-deployment preparations for potential peacekeeping missions.
ACP Waqa emphasized that the officers’ participation reflects Fiji’s ongoing commitment to regional security and peacekeeping efforts.
He expressed confidence in their success, noting that it would further reinforce Fiji’s standing as a key contributor to Pacific-led law enforcement initiatives.
