Officers from the Fiji Detector Dog Unit (FDDU) and the Western Division Dog Unit (WDDU) arrested three individuals for alleged unlawful possession of illicit drugs while responding to a disturbance report.
Assistant Commissioner of Police Operations (ACP) Livai Driu highlighted the deployment of K9 capabilities not only for specialized tasks but also to support routine operations and station-level reports.
Early this morning, the WDDU, while patrolling the Saweni area, responded to a disturbance report. Upon arrival, officers observed suspicious behavior from the occupants and requested backup from the FDDU.
A search of the premises led to the seizure of clear plastics containing substances believed to be methamphetamine.
The alleged owner of the house fled the scene, and the search for his whereabouts continues.
In a separate incident in Labasa, officers on beat patrol discovered an unattended bag at the Labasa market. Upon inspection, the bag contained several plastics with green leaves suspected to be marijuana.
ACP Driu emphasized the collaborative efforts of various units to enhance frontline operations and maintain a strong focus on curbing both minor and major crimes.
