Fiji Secures U.S. Tariff Reduction for Exporters

The Ministry of Trade, Co-operatives, MSMEs, and Communications has announced a major boost for Fijian exporters following the United States’ decision to reduce reciprocal tariffs on Fijian-origin goods from 32% to 15%.
The tariff cut comes after sustained engagement between the Fijian Government and the U.S. Office of the Trade Representative (USTR), aimed at safeguarding access for Fijian products in the American market.
Deputy Prime Minister and Minister for Trade, Hon. Manoa Kamikamica, welcomed the move, highlighting it as a positive outcome of early and principled diplomacy. He noted that the reduction would support local exporters and strengthen Fiji’s trade presence in the U.S.
The 32% tariff was originally part of a broader U.S. trade policy introduced in April 2025, which imposed high reciprocal rates on countries perceived to have uneven trade barriers against U.S. goods. Fiji was initially included in this list, prompting concern among exporters.
However, after timely diplomatic engagement by the Ministry, the U.S. agreed to a temporary suspension of the higher tariff and later confirmed the rate would be lowered to 15%.
This across-the-board reduction ensures continued market access for all Fijian-origin exports and reflects the effectiveness of Fiji’s proactive trade diplomacy.
