In a show of continued support for athlete development and international representation, the Fiji Sports Council (FSC) yesterday presented a cheque of $9,000 to Athletics Fiji to assist three athletes heading to the 12th Pacific Mini Games in Palau.

The handover took place at the HFC Bank Stadium, where FSC Acting CEO Mr. Gilbert Vakalalabure officially presented the cheque to Athletics Fiji President Mr. Joji Liga.

The funding will cover levies for three top-performing athletes under the FSC sponsorship programme:

Heleina Young, who will compete in the 200m, 400m, and relay events;

Miliakere Nikolau, who will take part in the javelin throw; and

Loata Lewageena, who will contest the discus throw.

The trio are part of a 25-member Team Fiji Athletics squad, accompanied by eight officials, set to represent the country at the regional championship from June 30 to July 9, 2025, in Palau.

The Fiji Sports Council reaffirmed its pride in standing beside the athletes as they prepare to carry the nation’s hopes on the regional stage.

“We wish Heleina, Miliakere, Loata, and the entire Team Fiji contingent all the very best in Palau,” the FSC said in a statement.
