Fiji has appointed Mr. Chai Tuck Yip as its new Honorary Consul to Hong Kong, in a move aimed at deepening diplomatic, economic, and cultural relations with the People’s Republic of China.

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs announced the appointment this week, stating it reflects Fiji’s ongoing commitment to strengthening its presence in Asia through its comprehensive strategic partnership with China.

The role of an honorary consul is pivotal in representing Fiji’s interests abroad, facilitating trade and investment opportunities, and supporting the Fijian diaspora. Mr. Yip’s appointment is expected to boost Fiji’s outreach in one of Asia’s major financial and commercial hubs.

The ministry says the appointment reinforces the People’s Coalition Government’s foreign policy focus on meaningful regional and global partnerships.
