Fiji’s Defence Minister Embarks on Global Mission to Honour Peacekeepers and Strengthen Defence Partnerships

The Minister for Defence and Veteran Affairs has today commenced an official overseas mission spanning the Middle East, Europe, and the United States, reaffirming Fiji’s commitment to global peacekeeping efforts and strengthening defence and veteran support partnerships.
Running from 14 April to 25 May 2025, the mission underscores Fiji’s unwavering dedication to international peace and security, while paying tribute to the Republic of Fiji Military Forces (RFMF) personnel bravely serving abroad.
The Minister’s itinerary begins in the Golan Heights, where he will visit Fijian troops deployed with the United Nations Disengagement Observer Force (UNDOF).
He will then travel to Jerusalem and Tiberias to engage with Fijian peacekeepers serving under the United Nations Truce Supervision Organization (UNTSO).
During these visits, the Minister will receive operational briefings and personally convey the nation’s gratitude for the troops’ professionalism, service, and sacrifice.
Continuing to Sharm-El-Sheikh, the Minister will meet with Fijian personnel at the Multinational Force and Observers (MFO) Headquarters, before heading to Rome for further discussions with senior mission leadership, including the MFO Director General.
The mission will also see the Minister represent Fiji at the 2025 Ministerial Peacekeeping Meeting in Berlin.
There, he will engage with senior United Nations officials and defence ministers from partner countries such as Germany, the United States, Australia, New Zealand, China, Japan, India, and the Republic of Korea.
In Washington D.C., the Minister is scheduled for a series of high-level meetings aimed at enhancing defence and security cooperation, while also advancing support initiatives for Fiji’s veterans and ongoing defence reforms.
This overseas mission highlights Fiji’s proud legacy as a steadfast contributor to global peacekeeping, while also championing the dedication of the men and women who serve under its flag.
Their commitment to peace, and embodiment of Fijian values of discipline, courage, and service, continues to be a source of national pride.
The Minister is expected to return to Fiji on 25 May 2025.
