Home Affairs Minister Pio Tikoduadua visited Fijian peacekeepers serving under the United Nations Disengagement Observer Force (UNDOF) at Camp Ziouani in the Golan Heights, Israel.

The visit began with a solemn wreath-laying ceremony to honour Fijians who have died in the line of duty while serving on peacekeeping missions.

In a Facebook post, Mr Tikoduadua said he spent time with the troops, listening to their stories, receiving briefings, and sharing talanoa. He described the contingent as focused, professional, and committed to their mission — representing Fiji with honour in one of the world’s most challenging regions.

“This visit is not just about visibility—it’s about connection,” he said. “Our peacekeepers must know they are not alone. They are backed by a nation that values their service.”

He also highlighted Fiji’s ongoing commitment to global peace and security, noting that peacekeeping remains a key pillar in the country’s National Security Strategy and Defence Review.

“Deployments must be meaningful, sustainable, and rooted in policy that puts people first—both those we send abroad and those we protect at home,” he said.

Mr Tikoduadua is expected to continue his visit with more engagements in the coming days.
