Fiji’s PS for Employment Presents on Labour Standards in Turin

Turin, Italy – Fiji’s Permanent Secretary for Employment, Productivity and Workplace Relations,Maritino Nemani , delivered a presentation on “Models of Labour Chapters” to students of the Master of Laws in International Trade Law program in Turin, Italy.
His presentation focused on the importance of obligatory compliance with domestic labour laws and the core International Labour Organization (ILO) standards. He also discussed how international trade agreements, particularly the European Union (EU) model, incorporate commitments to ILO standards.
PS Nemani’s participation highlights Fiji’s ongoing engagement with international labour and trade law communities and reflects the country’s focus on strengthening its alignment with global labour standards.
The event brought together postgraduate students and professionals in the field of international trade law, providing a platform for dialogue on how labour standards are integrated into trade agreements and their relevance for countries like Fiji.
The involvement of small island developing states like Fiji in such forums is vital for ensuring their perspectives and challenges are reflected in global policy discussions.
