Filipe Batiwale Appointed as the New Online Safety Commissioner

The Ministry of Communications has announced that Mr. Filipe Batiwale is the new Commissioner for the Online Safety Commission.

His appointment takes effect immediately.

Mr. Batiwale is an experienced lawyer who specializes in commercial and cyber law.

He studied law at the University of Canterbury and has worked for more than seven years in digital security and cyber law, both in Fiji and overseas.

Deputy Prime Minister and Minister for Trade, Hon. Manoa Kamikamica, said he is confident that Mr. Batiwale will help make the online space safer.

"His expertise and commitment will support our mission to create a safer digital environment for all users," Kamikamica said.

As Commissioner, Mr. Batiwale will focus on improving online safety policies, educating people about online risks, and ensuring stronger protections for internet users in Fiji.

He said he is committed to tackling online harm and making sure the Online Safety Commission does its job effectively.
