First Cohort Graduates from Meat Workshop Training Programme

The Ministry of Employment, Productivity and Workplace Relations has celebrated the graduation of the first cohort of 18 participants from its Meat Workshop training programme.

The graduates completed the two-week programme, which was designed to provide participants with practical skills and prepare them for employment opportunities in the meat processing industry.

Permanent Secretary for Employment Nemani Maritino congratulated the graduates on their achievement and acknowledged the dedication and discipline they demonstrated throughout the training.

He said completing the programme was not only about gaining technical skills but also about developing confidence, resilience and the right attitude for the workplace.

Maritino encouraged the graduates to maintain the strong work ethic developed during the programme as they move into employment and pursue their careers.

The training was delivered through a partnership involving the Ministry of Employment, Productivity and Workplace Relations, the Australian High Commission in Fiji, Pacific Australia Skills and Response Learning.

Participants received practical training in meat processing as well as workplace health and safety, food safety requirements and industry best practices aligned with Australian meat industry standards.

Maritino said preparing Fijians with appropriate skills, knowledge and an understanding of workplace expectations before they enter employment was important in ensuring workers could meet industry standards and contribute effectively to Fiji's economy.

He also acknowledged the collaboration involving the Ministry, National Employment Centre, Pacific Australia Skills and Response Learning, saying partnerships between training providers and employment agencies could create stronger pathways into the workforce.

The Permanent Secretary said linking training with employment opportunities would allow more Fijians to enter the workforce with greater confidence while contributing to national productivity.

The Ministry, through the National Employment Centre, has reaffirmed its commitment to connecting registered clients with training and employment opportunities aimed at empowering individuals and strengthening communities.
