First Property Fire of 2026 Destroys Three-Bedroom House in Tacirua
FIJI NEWS

The first reported property fire of 2026 has destroyed a three-bedroom house in Tacirua.
The National Fire Authority of Fiji received an emergency call at around 3.01pm on Saturday reporting a house fire along Princes Road, opposite the Tacirua Bus Garage.
Fire crews from the Suva Fire Station responded immediately, with the first fire truck arriving at the scene just over ten minutes later. On arrival, firefighters found the three-bedroom lean-to house fully engulfed in flames.
Firefighters used multiple hose lines and water supplies from fire trucks to control the blaze, which was fully extinguished by 4.22pm. The house, which had a floor space of about 396 square metres, suffered an estimated 99 per cent damage.
No injuries were reported, and firefighters were able to prevent the fire from spreading to a neighbouring house. The cause of the fire is still unknown, and investigations are continuing.
The National Fire Authority is urging members of the public to remain vigilant as the New Year begins, especially with ongoing festivities and the school year approaching. The Authority is reminding households to avoid leaving cooking unattended, check electrical wiring regularly, and not overload power points.
Members of the public are also advised to keep matches and lighters out of reach of children and to ensure that everyone in the household knows what to do in the event of a fire.
