Former Prime Minister Frank Voreqe Bainimarama has endorsed the newly registered political party One Nation, according to a media statement released by the party on Sunday.

One Nation said Mr. Bainimarama formally pledged his support following a meeting on Thursday, 2 July, with a party delegation led by President Roko Tupou Takaiwai Senirewa Draunidalo, General Secretary Ravindran Kumaran, founding members and members of the party's Central Executive Committee.

During the meeting, the delegation presented Mr. Bainimarama with the party's constitution and sought his patronage and support for the principles and values outlined in the document.

According to the statement, Mr. Kumaran outlined One Nation's vision, objectives and guiding principles, while Ms. Draunidalo formally presented the party's constitution to the former Prime Minister.

The party said Mr. Bainimarama acknowledged that the values contained in the One Nation constitution aligned with those he had promoted during his time as Prime Minister.

The statement further claimed Mr. Bainimarama expressed his support for the party's commitment to national unity, equal citizenry, equal opportunities, good governance, accountability and putting Fiji and Fijians first.

"What has impressed me is One Nation's principles which means that it is committed to transparent governance, responsible leadership, national development and reducing the growing socio-economic disparity between the rich and the poor," the statement quoted Mr. Bainimarama as saying.

One Nation described the endorsement as an important milestone for the party as it prepares to engage with voters ahead of Fiji's next general election.

The party said it remains committed to serving all Fijians regardless of ethnicity, religion, province, socio-economic status, gender or background, and pledged to continue meeting communities around the country to develop practical solutions to issues affecting ordinary citizens.
