FWCC Launches 16 Days of Activism Campaign on Beqa Island

The Fiji Women’s Crisis Centre (FWCC) has launched its 16 Days of Activism Against Violence Against Women and Girls campaign with a two-week training program for women on Beqa Island.
The training is being held at Naiseuseu Village Hall and involves around 60 women from Tikina Sawau.
The training covers gender, violence against women and girls, human rights, legal literacy, and technology-facilitated violence.
FWCC Coordinator Shamima Ali said the training is part of a national effort to build community advocates who can help end all forms of violence against women and girls.
Ali thanked the Rewa Provincial Office for its continued support and said it is encouraging to see gender equality being included in the province’s development plans. She also noted that since 2023, FWCC has conducted several awareness sessions in Rewa for both men and women.
Over 100 men have completed the Male Advocacy for Women’s Human Rights program this year, which encourages men to reflect on their attitudes and behaviour.
FWCC has also set up village-level committees that help support survivors of domestic violence by linking them to counselling, medical care, and legal assistance.
The Centre has been raising awareness on violence against women since 1984 and continues to provide training to government agencies and community groups.
The 16 Days of Activism campaign runs every year from November 25 to December 10. It was first started in 1991, and Shamima Ali was one of the women involved in founding it.
