The Government is exploring a formal partnership with Return & Earn Fiji as part of ongoing efforts to reduce litter, improve recycling systems, and support the development of Fiji's national Container Deposit Scheme.

Minister for Environment and Climate Change, Lynda Tabuya, met with representatives of Return & Earn Fiji today to discuss opportunities for collaboration in tackling waste management challenges across the country.

Representing Return & Earn Fiji were Dwayne Halofaki, Dinesh Patel of Motibhai Group, and Cate Pleass of Pleass Beverages.

Return & Earn Fiji is a recycling initiative established by bottling and manufacturing companies that pays consumers five cents for every eligible plastic bottle or aluminium can returned through its collection network.

Discussions focused on strengthening recycling systems, improving waste collection data, and expanding recycling services to rural and maritime communities as the Ministry finalises regulations for Fiji's proposed Container Deposit Scheme.

According to the Ministry, any future partnership will be guided through a transparent, government-led process aimed at delivering environmental, economic and social benefits for all Fijians.

Minister Tabuya thanked Return & Earn Fiji for its commitment to improving waste management and acknowledged the valuable insights shared during the discussions.

The Ministry said addressing Fiji's waste challenges will require strong partnerships, innovation and a collective commitment from government, industry and communities to build a cleaner and greener Fiji.
