Grace Road Group's Rice Production Supports Fiji's Food Security
FIJI NEWSTOP STORIES

As global food prices continue to fluctuate and international supply chains face ongoing uncertainty, the importance of local food production has never been greater.
At its rice farming and processing operation, Grace Road Group is investing millions of dollars in local agriculture with the aim of increasing domestic food production and contributing to Fiji's long-term food security.
The operation combines large-scale rice cultivation with modern processing infrastructure designed to handle significant volumes of locally grown rice. Following harvest, the rice is transported through a fully automated conveyor system and processed through four industrial dryers capable of handling close to 100 tonnes of rice per day.
Freshly harvested rice contains high levels of moisture and must be carefully dried before it can be safely stored, processed and distributed. The drying facility helps maintain quality standards while reducing waste and ensuring a consistent supply of rice for consumers.
The rice produced supports Grace Road Group's restaurants and food businesses throughout Fiji, while also contributing to the wider goal of reducing reliance on imported food products.
The company says the project represents more than agricultural production alone. It is also creating employment opportunities and helping develop local skills in modern farming techniques, machinery operation, rice processing and agricultural technology.
Food security has become an increasingly important issue for many countries, including Fiji, as disruptions to global markets have highlighted the risks associated with heavy dependence on imported food supplies.
Agricultural projects that increase local production capacity are widely seen as an important part of strengthening national resilience and ensuring greater food availability during periods of international market uncertainty.
Grace Road Group's investment in rice production demonstrates the role private sector investment can play in supporting local agriculture, creating jobs and contributing to Fiji's broader food security objectives.
As Fiji continues to look for ways to strengthen domestic food production, initiatives that combine agriculture, technology and infrastructure are expected to play an increasingly important role in helping secure a more sustainable food future for the country.
