Grace Road Leads Fight Against NCDs
FIJI NEWSTOP STORIES

Grace Road is stepping up its fight against Fiji's leading killer: non-communicable diseases, backing its message with action through the expansion of its True Fitness facility and a broader push toward healthier lifestyles.
Group President Daniel Kim at the opening of the True Fitness gym said this growing crisis must be treated as a national issue, not just a personal health concern.
“Whether it be physical inactivity, unhealthy diet, or obesity, this is no longer just a health issue. It is a national challenge that affects families, communities, and the future,” he said.
He noted that more young people are now being impacted, stressing that the need for prevention, education, and healthier lifestyles has never been more urgent.
Kim also challenged common perceptions of fitness, saying it goes beyond appearance.
“Fitness is not simply about appearance or physical beauty. It is the state where the body is strong, functional, and full of energy.”
He emphasised that achieving real fitness requires discipline and consistency.
“Fitness is built through discipline, sustained by consistency, and determination. It is both a habit and an attitude toward living a healthy life.”
The importance of balance was also highlighted, with a focus on three key pillars of health.
“It comes down to a balance of healthy food, consistent exercise, and proper rest. Through the right harmony of these three elements, our bodies are able to maintain true health.”
He said initiatives like True Fitness are designed to support that balance, creating spaces where individuals and families can prioritise their well-being.
“True Fitness is more than just a gym. It is a place to create a healthy community for you and your family.”
Kim concluded by reminding those present that caring for health is both a responsibility and a privilege.
“Our body is a temple. Our mind and body cannot be separated. Therefore, we carry both the responsibility and the privilege to take care of it.”
With non-communicable diseases continuing to place pressure on Fiji’s health system, the initiative reflects a growing shift toward prevention, community engagement, and practical solutions aimed at building a healthier society.
