The Ministry of Health and Medical Services has closed a major supermarket in Rakiraki due to ongoing compliance issues, according to a statement released last week.

During inspections, authorities found expired meat with freezer burns, foul odors, and improper storage temperatures.

Inspectors also noted non-functional freezers, inadequate pest control, and unsanitary conditions in both the butcher and retail sections.

The Ministry emphasized that the closure underscores its commitment to consumer safety and maintaining high food hygiene standards.

"Compliance is vital for protecting consumers and fostering a fair marketplace for all business owners," the Ministry stated.
