Lynda Tabuya, a Member of Parliament from the People’s Alliance Party, is likely to continue as an MP.

Reports suggest that the party’s disciplinary committee is set to decide that Tabuya should remain as a government backbencher.

Last month, Prime Minister Sitiveni Rabuka stated that her removal from the cabinet was his decision.

However, any decision to remove her from the People’s Alliance Party would have to come from the party itself.

According to the Fijian Constitution, an MP’s seat becomes vacant only if the person is expelled from their political party in line with party rules.

Additionally, the Speaker of Parliament must receive a written notice signed by the party leader and secretary confirming the expulsion before the seat is declared vacant.

As of now, there has been no official notification of Tabuya’s expulsion from the party, and she is expected to continue serving as an MP.
