It is Unchristian to Look Down on Someone Different From You, Says PM Rabuka

Prime Minister Sitiveni Rabuka has expressed deep sadness at the passing of Nadi-based medical doctor and social media influencer, the late Dr Isireli Biumaitotoya.
Speaking to the media this afternoon, PM Rabuka said it is unchristian to react violently or look down on someone simply because they are different after many social media users appeared to celebrate the incident.
“It is unchristian to go into violent reactions against somebody who differs from you. I believe all the other religions share the same values. You don’t go and offend or look down on someone who differs from you, whether in sexual orientation, physical condition or whatever reason, for that matter. To do so would be very unkind,” he said.
Describing the loss as tragic, the Prime Minister reflected on his own interactions with Dr Biumaitotoya, recalling their participation at a Human Rights conference at Pacific Harbour.
“I attended a conference on Human Rights at Pacific Harbour with Dr Isireli. A lot of people were uncomfortable with him but he contributed a lot in that conference,” Mr Rabuka said.
He offered condolences to the family of the late doctor, adding:
“May his soul rest in peace and may his family find comfort in their cherished memories. Moce mada Dr Isireli.”
