Hon. Penioni Ravunawa, Assistant Minister for Health and Medical Services, addressed attendees at the landmark lighting event for World Cancer Day at the Grand Pacific Hotel on Tuesday evening.

Ravunawa spoke about the 2025-2027 World Cancer Day theme, "United by Unique," which highlights the importance of putting people at the center of cancer care.

He emphasized the need for equal access to cancer diagnosis, treatment, and care, regardless of income, ethnicity, or gender.

"We believe that every action matters," Ravunawa said. "By working together, we can create lasting changes in cancer care."

He also stressed that cancer is not just a medical condition, but a deeply personal journey for each individual. Every cancer experience is unique, and a people-centered approach that focuses on the individual’s needs, with compassion and empathy, leads to the best outcomes.

This World Cancer Day, Ravunawa reinforced the idea that when we share our stories and work together, we can make a meaningful impact in the fight against cancer.
