The Minister for Justice Hon Siromi Turaga has confirmed that a video circulating on social media, reportedly showing an altercation involving a member of the Fiji Corrections Service (FCS), is under official review.

In a statement issued today, the Minister said the footage had been brought to his attention and that preliminary investigations suggest the incident occurred in early March 2025. “We have contacted the owners of the establishment, who have confirmed that the video likely dates back to early March. While we are yet to determine the exact date, we have sought verification from the relevant parties,” the Minister said.

He added that a full report has been requested from all concerned and will be submitted to both the Constitutional Offices Commission (COC) and the Honourable Prime Minister once verification is complete.

The Minister took the opportunity to remind all civil servants and public office holders of the standards expected of them, regardless of time or location. “This serves as a reminder to all public office holders and civil servants that a certain level of decorum is expected at all times—particularly when in uniform, whether that be Bula Friday wear or your official work attire.”

He emphasized that the FCS falls within his ministerial portfolio, while the appointment of the Commissioner of Corrections remains the responsibility of the COC, which is chaired by the Prime Minister.

“I have reiterated to the Commissioner and staff of the Fiji Corrections Services that decorum is expected of all officers, especially when in uniform. While social interaction is part of our way of life, I urge everyone to remain mindful of their conduct and to uphold discipline at all times,” he said.
