Kamikamica Calls for Review of 2013 Constitution

Deputy Prime Minister and Minister for Trade Manoa Kamikamica has called for a review of the 2013 Constitution, arguing it was imposed on the Fijian people by an unelected regime.
Speaking in Parliament, Kamikamica said the 2013 Constitution was crafted behind closed doors, replacing the Yash Ghai Commission’s draft, which was based on over 7,000 public submissions but was ultimately discarded and burnt.
He emphasized that a Constitution belongs to the people, not a select few, and urged Fijians to take ownership of the document, just as they did in 1997.
"If we truly wish to unify Fiji, we must review the 2013 Constitution and get the Fijian people to own the document," Kamikamica stated.
He stressed that revisiting the Constitution would strengthen democracy, ensure justice and equality, and correct the wrongs of the past.
"We must not allow fear, intimidation, or past oppression to dictate our future," he said, urging Fijians to stand together and demand a constitutional review to build a governance framework for future generations.
