Opposition Member of Parliament Premila Kumar is calling for accountability from the Judicial Services Commission (JSC) following the revocation of Barbara Malimali’s appointment as Commissioner of the Fiji Independent Commission Against Corruption (FICAC).

In a statement issued on social media, Kumar acknowledged the Prime Minister’s response to two of the concerns she had earlier raised in a press statement but said one critical question remains unanswered—whether those responsible for recommending the appointment will face consequences.

“The Prime Minister has addressed two questions which I raised through my press statement, but one critical question remains unanswered: accountability regarding Ms. Malimali’s appointment,” Kumar said.

She highlighted that the President had appointed Malimali based on a recommendation from the JSC. If that process failed to meet legal or ethical standards, Kumar argues, the Chair and members of the Commission must also be held accountable.

“Will the JSC Chair and Commissioners be held accountable? Will they be investigated or suspended for their role in the flawed process?” she questioned.

Kumar urged the government to provide clarity and transparency on whether any investigations or disciplinary actions would follow.

“We await the Prime Minister’s response on this important matter,” she concluded.
