Kumar Calls for Accountability Over JSC Role in Malimali Appointment
FIJI NEWS

Opposition Member of Parliament Premila Kumar is calling for accountability from the Judicial Services Commission (JSC) following the revocation of Barbara Malimaliâs appointment as Commissioner of the Fiji Independent Commission Against Corruption (FICAC).
In a statement issued on social media, Kumar acknowledged the Prime Ministerâs response to two of the concerns she had earlier raised in a press statement but said one critical question remains unansweredâwhether those responsible for recommending the appointment will face consequences.
âThe Prime Minister has addressed two questions which I raised through my press statement, but one critical question remains unanswered: accountability regarding Ms. Malimaliâs appointment,â Kumar said.
She highlighted that the President had appointed Malimali based on a recommendation from the JSC. If that process failed to meet legal or ethical standards, Kumar argues, the Chair and members of the Commission must also be held accountable.
âWill the JSC Chair and Commissioners be held accountable? Will they be investigated or suspended for their role in the flawed process?â she questioned.
Kumar urged the government to provide clarity and transparency on whether any investigations or disciplinary actions would follow.
âWe await the Prime Ministerâs response on this important matter,â she concluded.
