A 21-year-old woman from Labasa has been charged after allegedly providing false information to police about being assaulted and robbed.

She initially reported that two unknown iTaukei men attacked her near Labasa Hospital last Saturday, stealing her money, gold watch, and mobile phone.

However, police investigations, including CCTV footage, revealed that she had actually taken a taxi from the Labasa Bus Stand to a house in Line Point, Batinikama, which belonged to her 25-year-old boyfriend.

The woman later admitted that she had gone to her boyfriend's house, where he assaulted her.

The stolen items were recovered from his residence.

She has been charged with Giving False Information to a Public Servant under Section 201 of the Crimes Act, 2009, while the 25-year-old boyfriend has been charged with Assault Causing Actual Bodily Harm (ACABH) under Section 275 of the Crimes Act, 2009.

Both remain in police custody and are scheduled to appear in the Labasa Magistrates Court today.
