The Fiji Labour Party (FLP) and Unity Fiji have signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) to collaborate in the upcoming local government elections, scheduled for October 2025.

FLP Leader Mahendra Chaudhry and Unity Fiji Leader Savenaca Narube formalized the agreement, expressing confidence that their joint efforts would improve their chances of electoral success.

Chaudhry emphasized the importance of local government elections in restoring accountability and democracy in municipal governance.

He welcomed the government's decision to fulfill its promise of holding municipal elections.

"It makes perfect sense to work together and pool resources to contest these elections," Narube added. He highlighted that the MOU would allow for the selection of the best candidates, a joint campaign with a common platform, and strategic seat-sharing.

The agreement outlines key areas of cooperation, including coordinating candidate selection, running joint campaigns, issuing joint media statements, making electoral reform submissions to the government, and organizing joint fundraising efforts.

The partnership is open to other political parties interested in joining.

Both leaders reiterated their commitment to better serving the people and strengthening municipal governance through this collaboration.
