The 2025 sugarcane crushing season was officially launched today by Minister for Multi-Ethnic Affairs and Sugar Industry, Hon. Charan Jeath Singh, at the Lautoka Sugar Mill.
Minister Singh reaffirmed the government’s commitment to reviving Fiji’s sugar industry, announcing a projected harvest of 1.5 million tonnes—up by 200,000 tonnes from last year. He said Fiji could reach 2.3 million tonnes in five years if the trend continues.
Key support initiatives include a manual labour subsidy, drainage program, cane access road upgrades, and incentives for increased production.
Singh urged growers to boost output, saying, “The more you grow, the more we can support you.”
In 2024, Lautoka Mill processed over 368,000 tonnes of cane, producing 31,403 tonnes of sugar.
