The Land Transport Authority (LTA) of Fiji will introduce new rules for offshore vehicle inspections starting February 5, 2025.

These changes aim to make imported vehicles safer, follow Fijian laws, and ensure a fair process for second-hand car imports.

LTA CEO Irimaia Rokosawa said the updates were developed with the help of the Japan Export Vehicle Inspection Center (JEVIC).

“We’ve created new rules to check for safety risks, vehicle history, and compliance with Fijian regulations,” said Mr. Rokosawa.

LTA is also working with other important organizations, like Fiji Revenue and Customs, the Consumer Council of Fiji, and the Biosecurity Authority, to make the process better for everyone.

“These partnerships will improve the quality of vehicles and make checks faster, which is good for car dealers and buyers,” Mr. Rokosawa added.

The new system will include better tools to check vehicles, such as onboard diagnostics, event recorders, paint testing, and recall checks.

These improvements aim to give Fijians safer and better-quality vehicles.
