The Land Transport Authority (LTA) of Fiji is stepping up its efforts to make the roads safer, taking strong action against reckless drivers. From January to December 9, 2024, LTA has cancelled 62 driver licenses and suspended another 21 due to accidents and unsafe driving practices.

LTA Chief Executive Officer, Irimaia Rokosawa, revealed that 107 counselling sessions have been held across LTA branches to address irresponsible driving. During these sessions, the Authority issued 1,366 first warnings, 297 second warnings, and 155 final warnings to drivers found breaking the rules.

“These sessions are meant to educate drivers about their responsibilities and to prevent unsafe driving. It’s not just about punishing offenders but about saving lives,” Mr. Rokosawa explained.

The LTA has also taken additional measures by placing 39 client IDs on hold for severe violations and referring one case for audit. Mr. Rokosawa emphasized that these actions reflect the Authority’s zero-tolerance stance on reckless driving.

“We won’t hesitate to cancel more licenses if drivers continue to break the law and endanger lives,” he said. “Every suspended or cancelled license is one less threat on the road. We want drivers to realize their responsibility, not just for their own safety, but for everyone using the roads.”

The LTA’s actions aim to reduce preventable accidents by holding offenders accountable and removing dangerous drivers from Fiji’s roads. The Authority remains committed to making the roads safer for all.
