The Land Transport Authority of Fiji (LTA), in partnership with the US National Renewable Energy Laboratory and the Pacific Centre for Renewable Energy and Energy Efficiency (PCREEE), is hosting a three-day workshop on electric vehicles (EVs) and charging infrastructure at the Holiday Inn in Suva.
US Ambassador Marie Damour opened the event, emphasizing the importance of EVs in reducing reliance on expensive fossil fuels, creating jobs, and boosting Pacific economies.
LTA CEO Irimaia Rokosawa highlighted that transitioning to EVs is essential for cutting carbon emissions, improving energy security, and addressing climate change.
He acknowledged the unique challenges faced by island nations like Fiji and stressed the need for tailored solutions.
The workshop covers key topics such as EV deployment strategies, charging infrastructure, gender equity in transportation, and innovations in public transit.
It also aims to build the skills of LTA staff and support Fiji’s goal of creating a greener, more sustainable transport sector.
“This transition requires collaboration and knowledge-sharing,” said Mr. Rokosawa. “We are committed to building a cleaner future for Fiji.”
