Government backbencher Lynda Tabuya presented a Matanigasau—a traditional Fijian apology—to Prime Minister Sitiveni Rabuka and the Coalition Government Caucus yesterday at Parliament.

The apology acknowledged actions that had brought disrepute to the government and the people of Fiji.

Tabuya, expressing remorse, stated that learning from mistakes is essential and pledged to contribute positively to the nation. Ratu Apakuki Nanovo, a Turaga ni Vanua o Nacolase, Tavuki, presented the Matanigasau on behalf of Tabuya and the chiefs of Kadavu.

The Tovata and Burebasaga Confederacies also collectively sought forgiveness.

Deputy Prime Minister Manoa Kamikamica received the Matanigasau on behalf of the government.

Prime Minister Rabuka emphasized the importance of integrity and unity in leadership, reminding Parliament members of their duty to serve with honor and uphold the dignity of public office.
