Former Minister for Women, Children, and Social Protection, Lynda Tabuya, addressed Parliament on March 6, 2025, reaffirming her dedication to serving the people despite facing personal and political challenges.

Acknowledging past missteps and criticism, Tabuya emphasized her unwavering commitment to public service, stating that leadership is not about perfection but about resilience. She expressed gratitude for the freedom of speech in Fiji’s democracy, encouraging open and constructive dialogue.

Tabuya also commended independent MPs who joined the government, describing their decision as an act of courage that prioritizes solutions over political disputes. “We are showing that collaboration isn’t just possible; it’s crucial for the future of our beloved nation,” she said.

Highlighting gender-related issues, Tabuya acknowledged that while progress has been made, significant challenges remain.

She pointed to the ongoing underrepresentation of women in leadership, increasing cases of violence against women, and persistent workplace inequalities.

She urged Parliament and stakeholders to work together to address these issues and push for meaningful change.

Her speech comes months after her removal as a minister in December 2024, following the circulation of a private video.

Despite the controversy, the People’s Alliance party decided she would retain her seat as a Member of Parliament.
