Maharaj: Government Must Move Faster to Meet Gen Z Expectations
FIJI NEWS

Opposition MP Alvick Maharaj says the Government must keep pace with the attitudes and expectations of Generation Z, who he says judge leaders by results, not speeches.
In his end-of-week statement, Maharaj said Gen Z wants leaders who listen and work with them, rather than talk over them. He said young people believe they already have solutions to many challenges, but feel politicians act too slowly.
Maharaj said many young people now prefer to become business owners instead of seeking traditional office jobs. He said Fiji should learn from countries like India and China, which built economic growth by investing in youth startups.
He said improving education quality, upgrading digital access, and providing more hands-on training will help young people transition into work. He also highlighted the rising cost of living and mental health pressures on youth, saying these issues need urgent attention.
Maharaj said giving young people a real voice in national decisions is essential if Fiji wants to harness their potential.
