A 31-year-old man from Kinoya has been arrested for unlawful possession of illicit drugs after a police search of passengers on a recently arrived vessel.

The man was found with a blue bag containing four parcels of dried leaves believed to be marijuana. Police also discovered unclaimed items, including 572 - marijuana branches wrapped in a black sulu and numerous zip-lock bags.
Assistant commissioner of Police operations, Livai Driu, states that searches on vessels would continue as part of efforts to combat drug-related activities.
Driu added that police teams have begun uprooting drug plants on maritime islands, with recent operations in Lau, Levuka, Gau, and Taveuni.
Stakeholder information has been instrumental in these drug busts and arrests.
