A man in his 30s has been arrested in Nadi for his alleged involvement in a series of sacrilege cases.
The Western Division Taskforce made the arrest and recovered several religious statues believed to have been stolen. The suspect remains in custody as investigations continue.
In a separate case in Sawani, five juveniles aged 15 and 17 were interviewed under caution in the presence of their parents after allegedly stoning a temple last week. The youths claimed they threw stones while walking past, which landed on the temple roof. The file will be sent to the Divisional Crime Officer, who will seek further directions from the Office of the Director of Public Prosecutions.
Police Commissioner Rusiate Tudravu reiterated that the cases are not politically motivated, noting that motives are often linked to financial gain, internal disputes, or unruly behavior by youths.
