A 30-year-old self-employed man from Davuilevu Housing has been charged by the Fiji Police Force Cyber Crime Unit with one count of Obtaining Financial Advantage by Deception and one count of Possession of Property Suspected to be Proceeds of Crime.
It is alleged that on March 30 last year, the accused obtained $260 from a victim through an online money transfer platform, under the pretense of providing a rental car service.
Police say the victim had been in contact with the accused regarding a rental car advertised on a social media page called Fiji Rental Cars. After the money was transferred, the accused allegedly failed to deliver the promised service.
The matter was reported to the Lautoka Police Station, prompting an investigation by the Cyber Crime Unit.
