Man Charged for Deception in Mobile Money Scam

The Fiji Police Force Cybercrime Team has arrested and charged a 38-year-old man from Nadi Back Road with six counts of Obtaining Financial Advantage by deception.

The accused allegedly dishonestly obtained $7,235.00 from five victims through a mobile money platform.

Investigations revealed that between September 2023 and December last year, the man posted advertisements for plyboard, floortimber, and roofing iron under different company names on social media.

He provided various mobile numbers and instructed buyers to send deposits to his mobile numbers or personal bank account.

However, he failed to deliver the promised goods.

The scam was reported at Lami, Totogo, Sigatoka, Nausori, and Tavua Police Stations.

The accused is currently in police custody and will be produced at Suva Magistrate Court today.
