Man charged in rental car scam case

The Fiji Police Cyber Task Force has charged a 37-year-old man for allegedly dishonestly obtaining $260 in connection to a rental car scam.
According to police, the victim transferred the money to a bank account after receiving the details via text message from a mobile number listed on a Facebook rental car advertisement.
The alleged incident took place on July 19, 2024.
After multiple failed attempts to contact the accused, the victim lodged a complaint at the Namaka Police Station.
The accused has been charged with one count of obtaining financial advantage by deception and is set to appear in the Suva Magistrates Court today.
