FIJI NEWS

A man in his 30s has become Fiji’s latest road fatality following a serious accident along the Queen’s Highway near Wainigasau on 18 February 2026.
The victim was a passenger in a vehicle driven by a man also in his 30s. Police allege the driver lost control of the vehicle, causing it to veer onto the opposite lane and collide head-on with an oncoming vehicle.
The victim was admitted to the Colonial War Memorial Hospital in critical condition but passed away on 19 February.
The suspect remains admitted to the hospital, along with occupants of the other vehicle who are reported to be in stable condition.
The national road death toll now stands at seven, compared to two recorded during the same period last year.
Authorities are again reminding drivers to remain vigilant and practise safe driving at all times, warning that accidents can occur when motorists become complacent about road safety.
Police stressed that road safety is a shared responsibility.
