Man drowns while attempting to cross Waibasaga River

A 27-year-old man is believed to be the country’s latest drowning victim after being swept away by strong currents while trying to cross the Waibasaga River on the evening of April 1, 2025.
The incident was reported to the Vunidawa Police Station, prompting a search operation.
His body was later found near the Matainasau Bridge.
A post-mortem examination will be conducted as police investigations continue.
