Indian professional boxer Mandeep Jangra has won the prestigious World Boxing Federation (WBF) super featherweight world title, defeating Britain's Conor McIntosh in an intense bout held in the Cayman Islands.

The 31-year-old, trained by former Olympic silver medallist Roy Jones Jr., showcased exceptional skill and determination throughout the 10-round fight.

With only one loss in his professional career so far, Jangra dominated most rounds with powerful punches and sustained energy, leaving McIntosh struggling to keep up.

Despite McIntosh's attempts at a comeback, Jangra maintained control, securing a significant victory.

"This is one of the biggest victories of my career," Jangra said in a media release. "I am thankful to my sponsor Nash Built Construction, Chief Coach Roy Jones, Assistant Coach Asa Beard, and Angel. I have worked hard for years to achieve this. It is a matter of pride for me that I could bring glory to the country."

Hailing from Haryana, Jangra turned professional in 2021 and has since won 11 out of his 12 fights, with seven victories coming by knockout.

He also had a successful amateur career, earning a Commonwealth Games silver medal at the 2014 Glasgow edition.

Reflecting on the potential of Indian boxers, Jangra expressed hope for the future of the sport in the country. "Our boxers are good, and there is no dearth of talent in them.

If they get good promoters and managers, they can also become world champions," he added.

Jangra’s achievement is a significant milestone for Indian boxing, and he hopes it will inspire others to pursue professional boxing careers.

"I believe this title will pave the way for other Indian boxers to consider making a mark in professional boxing," he said.

With this historic win, Jangra continues to elevate India's standing in the international boxing arena.
