The Marist Old Boys of 1984 have donated $5,000 to support the Marist Brothers High School Athletics Club as the school prepares for the upcoming zone athletics competition.

The donation was made by Permanent Secretary for Employment, Productivity and Workplace Relations, Maritino Nemani, on behalf of the 84 Old Boys during a small gathering at the school grounds.

While addressing the team, Nemani said the gesture reflected the true Marist spirit, where former students continue to support and uplift those who come after them.

“This is what the Marist spirit is about, helping those in need and being there for each other. The bonds formed at Marist don’t end when you leave school. They stay with you for life,” Nemani said.

Marist has long been recognised as one of Fiji’s dominant forces in secondary school athletics, producing generations of talented athletes who have excelled at zone competitions, the Coca-Cola Games and at national level.

Nemani himself was once a sprinter for Marist during his school days and later went on to represent Fiji in football, eventually captaining the national team. He currently also serves as chairman of the Suva Rugby Football Union.

He encouraged the athletes to work hard and represent the school with pride, reminding them that they carry a proud tradition whenever they step onto the track.

The Marist Athletics Club thanked the MOB84 Old Boys for their support, noting that mentorship and encouragement from former students continue to play an important role in motivating current athletes as they prepare for the upcoming zone competition.
