A 36-year-old market vendor from Labasa has been charged with one count of obtaining financial advantage.

The charge stems from an incident on 23 March 2024, where the accused allegedly withdrew $150 from a victim’s bank account.

Police investigations revealed that the victim, while at home, received a mobile message believed to be from their department head requesting a loan of $150. After stating that she had insufficient funds on her mobile account, she was instructed to transfer the money via online bank transfer.

The funds were transferred and later withdrawn in Labasa on the same day.

The matter was reported to Nabouwalu Police Station.

The accused will be produced at the Labasa Magistrates Court this afternoon.
