Veteran football administrator Mun Sami “Max” Chetty is strongly positioned to take up the influential position of Fiji Football Association Vice-President West, marking a potential return to the upper ranks of football administration.

Chetty was nominated by the Lautoka Football Association, with Lautoka FA President Shalendra Prasad throwing his full support behind the experienced administrator.

Prasad confirmed Chetty’s strong position following the close of proposals at 5pm on 16 August 2026, placing the veteran administrator in a favourable position as the nomination and eligibility process continues.

The development represents a significant endorsement of Chetty’s experience and standing within football circles in the Western Division.

Attention will now turn to the completion of the formal nomination process, which closes at 5pm on 26 August 2026, before the eligibility process is undertaken by the Fiji FA Governance Committee on Monday, 31 August 2026.

Should Chetty satisfy the required eligibility provisions and remain the sole eligible candidate, the statutes provide for his election by acclamation rather than through a secret ballot.

For Lautoka FA and Prasad, the development represents strong backing for their preferred candidate for one of the most important football administrative positions in the West.

If successful, Chetty would take up a key leadership role at Fiji FA level, representing the interests of football in the Western Division and contributing to decisions affecting the future direction of the sport nationally.

While the procedural and eligibility requirements are still to be completed, Chetty has emerged in a strong position for the Western vice-presidency.
