MGM High School Cancels Year 13 Graduation Over Unpaid Walk-a-Thon Pledges

MGM High School has disappointed its Year 13 students by canceling their graduation ceremony this year due to unpaid walk-a-thon pledges.
The school had organized a walk-a-thon earlier this year to raise funds for students in need and to support the school's sports activities.
The goal was to raise at least $30,000.
However, the school says many students have not collected or paid the money they pledged, leading to the cancellation of the graduation event.
According to a circular sent to students, the graduation ceremony will only be held if all textbooks and school resources are returned and if the $30 pledged by each student is paid.
The circular also stated that this issue would affect the release of student results and testimonials.
One Year 13 student expressed frustration, saying it felt unfair to tie such an important event like graduation to unpaid pledges, especially for students who worked hard and made sacrifices.
Many students had planned around the graduation, with some even canceling overseas trips and purchasing special outfits for the occasion.
While the school acknowledges the situation, School President Jitesh Patel declined to comment further.
He confirmed, however, that the school plans to hold an awards ceremony next year and encouraged affected students to speak with the school management about their concerns.
