Minister for Defense Pio Tikoduadua made a statement on social media Thursday, affirming his commitment to open debate while condemning a recent increase in racially charged attacks. As Fiji’s Minister for Defense, Tikoduadua is well-accustomed to engaging in tough conversations and believes that respectful dialogue is essential.

Pio Tikoduadua stated, “I’ve always believed that public service means showing up—not just in office, but in conversation. That’s why I don’t shy away from debate, and yes—I’ll admit it—I do enjoy a good back and forth now and then. It’s part of the job, and I take it in stride.”

Addressing the rise in ethnic insults on his page, Pio Tikoduadua warned, “Let me be very clear: I will not tolerate racism—on this page, or anywhere else. If you bring hate speech, ethnic slurs, or racist innuendo into this space, you will be blocked and reported. No apologies for that.”

Minister Tikoduadua further explained, “Criticise my policies. Question my travel. Challenge my record. I’ll meet you there. But the moment you drag race into it, you’re no longer part of the conversation—you’re part of the problem.”

Emphasizing the need for unity, Pio Tikoduadua added, “We can disagree, even argue—but let’s do it with respect. This is Fiji. We are all Fijians. Let’s act like it.” He stressed that Fiji has achieved so much progress and must not revert to divisive, ethnic politics.
