Minister for Information Hon. Lynda Tabuya has called on police to strengthen court security after an attempted attack on journalists covering proceedings yesterday.

Tabuya urged law enforcement to use secure routes for transferring suspects, keep media workers safe, and remain alert to potential risks.

“Protecting journalists is protecting democracy. We stand with the media,” she said, emphasising that press freedom and open justice are pillars of a healthy democracy.

The Minister pledged to push for stronger laws to deter harassment or obstruction of reporters and encouraged media organisations to provide support services and safe channels for their staff to report threats.

She also commended the work of journalists, praising their courage and resilience in carrying out their duties.

“The Ministry reaffirms its commitment to ensuring the safety of media workers, promoting open justice, and keeping the public informed,” Tabuya said.
