Ministry of Education Begins Review of The Education Act 1966

The Acting Permanent Secretary for Education, Ratu Meli Nacuva, officially opened the Review of the Education Act 1966 workshop on behalf of the Minister for Education at the Pearl Resort, Pacific Harbour.
In his opening remarks, Mr. Nacuva highlighted the importance of updating the Education Act 1966, which serves as the foundational legislation governing the education system in Fiji.
“The review of the Education Act is long overdue,”* he stated.
He further emphasized that the primary objective of the workshop is to critically examine the Act, identify key challenges and opportunities, and address issues that require legislative reform. The discussions held will form the basis for a comprehensive review of the Act.
The review is being conducted with the support of the Fiji Law Reform Commission, the Office of the Solicitor General, and UNICEF**, and is funded by the Global Partnership for Education Fund.
The three-day workshop is focused on internal consultations within the Ministry of Education.
Public consultations will follow in the coming weeks after in-house discussions have been completed.
