Ministry of Education Introduces Prayer and Fasting in Schools
FIJI NEWS

The Ministry of Education has introduced a prayer and fasting initiative in schools across Fiji to promote a productive teaching workforce through divine intervention, according to a circular issued by Acting Permanent Secretary Meli Nacuva.
The initiative, which respects Fiji’s diverse denominations and beliefs, directs all school heads to allocate a specific time and day for prayer and fasting. While fasting is encouraged until midday, students will only participate if they express interest.
The ministry states the initiative aligns with Section 22 of the 2013 Constitution, the Denarau Declaration, and the Fiji National Curriculum Framework, emphasizing spiritual and values-based education.
Schools are advised to reflect prayer sessions in their timetables, incorporating them into existing devotion or quiet time programs where applicable.
